Introduction
Anime is a Japanese loan word used to describe the wide
range of animated films produced in Japan. Anime is also widely known as
Japanese Animation or Japanimation. I prefer the term anime, but any of
these terms are acceptable. Anime is extremely diverse in its subject
matter, including science fiction, horror, drama, history, mystery,
adventure, fantasy, sports, romance, and perhaps most infamously,
pornography. I think that it is partly this diversity that drew me to anime
in the first place.
My original interest in anime began about 10 years ago,
when I would catch bits and pieces of anime movies that were broadcast on
late night television for a time. I was intrigued, but after these spots
were removed ( I think that channel was bought out and became a Spanish
channel) my interest faded away. I am not ashamed to admit that what
rekindled my interest in anime some years later was the Pokemon series that
was created to complement Nintendo's video games. By this time, I was old
enough to begin buying anime on my own, and I started collecting. Since
then, I have amassed a collection that includes as of this writing 67 DVD's,
two dozen figures, a dozen CD's, and even one imported video game
(Evangelion 64).
