BATTLE REPORT

TURNS 1 & 2

Here we are,
surveying the tranquil corner of the galaxy that is about to be
shattered as my and Sean's fleets clash. Sean craftily deployed behind
the asteroids in his corner of the board, denying me any shots with my
Nova Cannon. So, I moved my forces forward as one (C). On Sean's
movement, he split his forces into two divisions. One division consisted
of the two Lunars and a Strike Cruiser, and went to the "South" of the
asteroid field (A). The rest of his forces passed North of the
asteroids, closing with the planet. At the top of turn 2, I had the
strike cruiser that passed south of the asteroids firmly in my sights,
and the Apollo's Nova Cannon shot was dead on. I then rolled a
"6" for the number of hits scored! To add insult to injury, one of the
five hits incurred by the blast was a critical hit that finished off the
Strike Cruiser, reducing it to a drifting hulk. Extra rations of grog
for the Apollo's gunners!

TURN 3
This turn was more of an
ordnance duel. Sean had launched just about everything he had, and I had
scrambled all the fighters I could muster to hopefully blunt the
incoming wave of Thunderhawks and boarding torpedoes that were now
streaming my way. I also split off the faster units of my fleet, the
light cruisers and escorts, looking to keep their fragile hulls out of
the fight a little while longer and also to hopefully position them for
a flanking maneuver (A). Sean maneuvered his two Lunars to try and link
up with his northern forces (B), while the northern wing of his fleet
turned towards my forces, launching their ordnance as they went (C).
TURN 4
I started my move by
continuing to maneuver my lighter forces away from the main force
of Sean's fleet (A). The Apollo reloaded and moved ahead the
requisite 10cm, but her Nova Cannon failed to score a hit on the nearest
Lunar (B). However, emboldened by my success with the Apollo's
Nova Cannon in Turn 2, and by the fact that Sean had presented me with
the beam aspect of his Lunars, I charged my heavy cruiser squadron at
his southern force using an All Ahead Full order, intending to let loose
with my prow torpedoes (C). Since the ships were squadroned, they all
moved the same distance, ensuring maximum impact on Sean's force. When
Sean saw my on-rushing cruisers with the menacing, gaping maws of their
torpedo tubes staring him in the face, he hastily braced his Lunars.
Even so, my torpedoes succeeded in scoring several hits on the enemy.
More importantly, this maneuver was a bit unexpected and threw off
Sean's battle plan. All he could do was advance his force down the
straight between the asteroid field and the planet. My fighters
continued to duel with Sean's Thunderhawks, mostly keeping their own.
The few Thunderhawks that did get through fell to the turrets on my
ships during their attack runs.
