Imperial
battleships are on the whole incredibly ancient, and relatively rare
sights. The Apocalypse class, however, is older and scarcer than
most classes. This battleship design is no longer in production, nor can
any more be produced as the technology needed to reproduce the vessel's
massive lance armament has passed from the knowledge of the Imperium.
The Redemptus Empertous came as something of a surprise
reinforcement for Battlegroup Fortitas, and is one of only a handful of
examples of this class known to have ever operated on the eastern
fringe. The Apocalpse class has earned a reputation for having
cantankerous machine spirits, breaking down at the most inopportune
times. While some would argue that these mechanical failures are caused
by the class's extreme age and the Mechanicum's lack of understanding of
its systems, the Redemptus Empertous nevertheless seems to
bear out that reputation . She has had to spend considerable time
in the docks for maintenance, to the point that some of her crew have
dubbed her the Refitus Empertous (of course, anyone caught
by the ship's Commissar uttering such an unbecoming nickname would be
immediately flogged) . As a result, the Empertous is
considered to be something of a second line battleship by Fortitas
command, and as a result she has not seen much action. The ship spends
what time she is out of the yards mostly patrolling the quieter regions
of the sub-sector, but if general war were to come, the Redemptus
Empertous could be a major asset.
