Dominator-class
cruisers feature powerful, short-range weapons batteries coupled with a
Nova Cannon. They are something of an oddity in the Imperial Navy. Their
weapons batteries are the strongest of any Imperial cruiser, and are
only one of two classes to carry the Nova Cannon as a standard armament.
In fact, this class has the lowest displacement of any Nova Cannon
equipped vessel, making them valuable in certain situations where fleet
size is tightly limited. However, the unusual aspects of the
Dominator have made it somewhat unpopular among many Imperial
admirals. The Thunderchild languished in second-line service for
centuries before its eventual assignment to Battlegroup Fortitas.
Admiral Ruckdog sees great merit in her heavy-hitting guns and
relatively inexpensive Nova Cannon, and as a result the Thunderchild
is finally taking her rightful place in the battle line.
