One for the Core! |
Prototype is really starting to heat up! Today was a
busy day, chock full of studying, getting check outs, and practicing
radiological control, affectionately known as RADCON. I was originally
planning on taking tonight and playing a game or something, but instead
I've wound up watching Bulletproof Monk on TV. So, I figured that
since I'm just watching TV, I could just as well throw up a quick update
on my Refit project detailing the paint tests I did last weekend. |

It was a Dark and Stormy Night... |
It is storming to beat the band out there right now!
We're talking wind, rain, thunder, and lightning. It is storming so
hard, I had to bring in the parts of my model that I painted on my porch
this afternoon. Speaking of which, I have posted another update on it,
which you can find below. Despite the rain, today has been a nice day.
Besides working on the model, I went to Church, so I got to sing with
the choir for the first time in weeks. I really enjoy both the music and
the people in the group, so it is one of the things I miss most when I
leave town. Tonight, I'll probably just play a few games, maybe try out
my new Nintendo Wi-Fi USB dongle! Oh, one more thing:
Happy Mother's Day, Mom! |

The Modeling Adventure Continues |
I know what you are thinking: "Two updates in a row?
What is going on here!?!" One advantage of being at Prototype is that my
weekends off are true weekends off. No more going in to school to study
on Saturday morning or Sunday evening for a test on Monday! As a result,
I now have a little more time to go out and get some things done (like
updating the website!). This time around, I thought I would light
of coverage of my latest modeling project, the Refit Enterprise model I
received as a present last Christmas. Unlike the NX-01 project, my
intention this time around is to provide periodic updates along the way.

One Week Down! |
My EOOW (Engineering Officer of the Watch)
qualification process is now well and truly underway. Today, I finally
got to see the inside of my assigned Moored Training Ship, MTS-626.
After having read and looked at pictures of this plant for months, I
have to admit that it is invigorating to actually see it firsthand. No
doubt, I will be seeing much, much more of it in the months ahead!
Anyway, now that the first week is over and the weekend is here, I
finally have time to sit down and post the pictures Gwen and I took at
last weekend's Spring Regionals battle. |

Preparing For Battle |
Well, I am finally back in good ol' North Chuck.
Today was my first day at Prototype, also known as the
Nuclear Power Training Unit.
Suffice to say, it was a rather boring time that was mostly spent
waiting. They had us there for 12 hours to receive 3 hours worth of
briefs! Truly, one should never underestimate the ability of the Navy to
waste your time ;). Anyway, I am still
trying to get settled back in after being away for two weeks. My leave
period was so busy that I almost feel like I need a vacation from my
vacation! For example, last weekend was the 2006 IR/CWCC Spring
Regionals. Though I wasn't able to stay for the battle on Sunday, I was
there Friday and Saturday and had a real blast. However, before I could
make it to the battle, I had to put some work into the boat, and you can
read about that process below. I'll try to have a rundown of the battle
posted later this week. Rest assured, there are holes in my hull once
again! |
