Touring the USS Midway On Wednesday, 14 April 2010, Gwen and I toured the retired aircraft carrier USS Midway. The ship was commissioned in 1945, retired in 1992, and opened as a museum in 2004. The museum was very well designed, with a free self-guided audio tour that explained various areas of the ship. Another thing that I noticed is that the ship was in pretty good condition for a museum ship of this size (possibly due to the location of the ship, smack dab in the middle of the waterfront of a city popular for its tourism!).
