At long last, it looks like I'm going to be going to
sea. I will be riding the USS MIAMI for the next few months, making a
couple of stops in places like
Rota, Spain and
Haifa, Israel. It
should be a good time, and I'm sure I'll be busy trying to do and see as
much as I can. Unfortunately, this means that the sparse update schedule
of the last couple of months is going to continue. I don't anticipate
having a lot of time to post more while I'm out at sea! Even so, I might
be able to make a quick post now and then when we pull in.
Trying to get ready for this ride has been an
interesting experience; gathering all the required clothes, toiletry
items, snacks, and what have you for several months, and then trying to
cram all of it into a single duffel bag has been a challenge the likes
of which I haven't experienced since my days at Scout camp! Even so, I
think I've pretty much got it all together, and now I am just enjoying
my last few days on land before the MIAMI sets sail. Fortunately, Gwen
was able to join me up here in Connecticut, so I've at least had the
pleasure of her company!
On a final, more serious note, for those of you
who wish to keep myself and the rest of the MIAMI's crew in your
thoughts and prayers, I offer this, the Submarine verse of the Navy
Hymn:
Lord God our power evermore,
Whose arm doth reach the ocean floor,
Dive with our men beneath the sea,
Traverse the depths protectively.
Oh, hear us when we pray and keep,
Them safe from peril in the Deep. |
