IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE, THERE IS ONLY WAR

Warhammer 40,000, (WH40K, or simply 40k), is a science fiction/fantasy miniatures war game sold by Games Workshop. It is set in our galaxy, but 40,000 years in the future when Mankind is the master of a sprawling interplanetary empire known as the Imperium that encompasses millions of planets and untold trillions of citizens. The Imperium, however, is constantly under siege from alien horrors and even traitorous humans bent on the destruction of all order in the universe. Players in this game collect an army of models for a chosen faction, and then do battle against other players on a tabletop studded with scenery that could include forests, volcanoes, and bombed-out buildings.

My chosen faction is the Imperial Guard, or IG, which is the most numerous of all the Imperium's armies. The IG's tactics center around massed infantry attacks backed up by tanks and artillery. I found this appealing because I love tanks, and I like the idea that the troops in my army are "real" people, not hulking alien monsters or genetically engineered super beings.
